Vive Crop Protection Launches Bifender® SM, Expanding In-Season Soil Insect Control for Corn Growers
TORONTO, Ontario (April 1, 2026) – Vive Crop Protection announced today the launch of Bifender® SM, a new soil-applied insecticide designed to provide growers with a flexible, in-season option for managing soil insect pressure in corn.
Bifender SM introduces Vive’s new Soil Mobile platform, enabling Bifenthrin to move with water deeper into the soil profile, placing protection directly where pests are feeding. Applied through chemigation systems such as drip, pivot and overhead irrigation, Bifender SM offers a practical solution when timing, pressure, or equipment limitations leave gaps at planting.
“Growers don’t always have perfect conditions at planting, and pest pressure doesn’t always follow a schedule,” said Lead Agronomist George Huckabay. “Bifender SM gives them the flexibility to respond in-season and protect their crop when it matters most.”
Unlike traditional soil insecticides that remain concentrated near the surface, Bifender SM’s Soil Mobile Technology reduces interaction with soil particles, allowing the active ingredient to move deeper into the root zone, before locking in place once the soil dries. This creates a broader zone of protection and helps align insect control with feeding activity.
Field trial data has demonstrated that in-season applications of Bifender SM can significantly reduce corn rootworm injury, with additional benefits observed when used in combination with at-plant applications such as Bifender® FC.
Designed for ease of use, Bifender SM can be applied through existing irrigation and chemigation infrastructures, making it well-suited for large-acre operations and growers without in-furrow equipment. The broadcast application approach helps ensure consistent soil coverage and positions the active ingredient where root damage occurs.
Bifender SM is currently registered for use on corn and a variety of row and specialty crops.
