# Stop Rhizoctonia in Sugarbeets At-Plant

Rhizoctonia in sugarbeets is a yearly battle that growers face and depending on environmental conditions and crop rotation, rhizoc severity can vary. There are a few different ways that growers can defend their crop against Rhizoctonia. First is to use a seed treatment that provides protection, second is to use a fungicide in-furrow, and third is to treat using a banded application at the 4-8 leaf timeframe.

In my experience, a seed treatment alone is not enough to control rhizoc and utilizing a seed treatment along with an in-furrow fungicide application provides a much better base of protection. AZteroid FC 3.3 is Vive’s solution to applying a fungicide in-furrow with pop-up fertilizers, micronutrients, and other crop inputs, allowing the grower to get that added protection, right from the start, without the mixing hassles.

In several Vive sugarbeet trials, an in-furrow application of AZteroid FC 3.3 often equaled or performed better than a banded fungicide application alone. But, when you apply AZteroid FC 3.3 in-furrow and then follow it up with banded application of Vive’s new 3-in-1 chemical + biological + Allosperse fungicide, AZterknot, you achieve your highest yields and increase disease protection.

Using a foliar application of AZterknot provides the grower with two modes of action to ward off Rhizoctonia infections in the field. The proven chemistry of azoxystrobin provides excellent disease control and the second mode of action, Reynoutria extract, induces a response within the plant to make itself more resilient and more resistant to disease infection, all while bringing a boost of plant health.

When lining up your disease control program for Rhizoctonia in sugarbeets this year, consider the following:

- Good: seed treatment + AZterknot applied at 4-8 leaf stage
- Better: seed treatment + AZteroid FC 3.3 applied in-furrow
- Best: seed treatment + AZteroid FC 3.3 applied in-furrow + AZterknot applied at 4-8 leaf stage
